In 2025, IORIYA was honored to produce and perform the special cultural program “Wa no Wa” (The Circle of Harmony) at the Expo 2025 Osaka, Kansai.
This comprehensive performance was designed as a symbolic “Cultural Bridge,” showcasing the fusion of Japan’s timeless spirit and modern stage aesthetics to a global audience.
One distinctive feature of Tango chirimen is the tiny wrinkles or wave-like patterns known as “shibo” that are created through a unique weaving technique. These shibo textures give the fabric its unique sheen and texture, making it highly valued for its luxurious appearance.
Concept: Tradition Meets Future
“Wa no Wa” (Circle of Harmony) represents the connection between history and the future. We transformed classic Japanese beauty into a dynamic, modern expression for the world stage.

Design: Wearable Art
The costumes featured a fusion of Nishijin-ori and modern textiles. These “wearable expressions” combine high-end traditional craft with the mobility required for professional performance.

Production: Motion and Sound
The show integrated dynamic choreography with iconic symbols like Sensu (fans) and Wadaiko (drums). We created an immersive atmosphere that captivated the diverse global audience at the Expo.

Mission: The Cultural Bridge
As a symbolic project, “Wa no Wa” served as a Cultural Bridge, presenting a “new Japanese identity” and fostering international exchange through the power of art.
